dc.description.abstract Politeness is a form of behaviour that is usually shaped within the etiquette and the expectations of the individual or society. The relationship between the language of politeness and culture is related to how the cultural ethical values of a society are reflected in the rules of politeness and how people adopt these rules. In relation to the fact that each society has its own cultural values, the language of politeness also has characteristics specific to the society. Compared to other languages and cultures, it is a well-known fact that Chinese politeness has a great historical background. Chinese politeness, which has been under the influence of the li rules of Confucianism for thousands of years, still carries these moral values today. In all the studies, it has been emphasized that the rooted culture of China is the background of the expressions of politeness in Chinese. There are traces of historical Confucianism in every expression of politeness in Chinese, whether it is the forms of address, greetings, appreciations, compliments, invitations and requests. Thus, the presence of politeness in Contemporary Chinese that cannot break with the past distinguishes it from the courtesy culture of other societies and leads to the examination of Chinese politeness separately from other societies. In this study, first of all, the influence of li rules on the politeness will be examined, and then the close relationship between politeness in Contemporary Chinese and Chinese culture will be revealed. The aim of this study is to provide understanding in Turkiye regarding the language of politeness and culture peculiar to the Chinese society, and to minimize the communication deficiencies caused by cultural differences between the two countries. tr_TR
